Healthy Berry Chocolate Squares

As someone who has a major sweet tooth, these Berry Chocolate Squares are perfect when I'm having a sugar craving. These treats use unsweetened organic dairy-free chocolate chips that are 100% cacao and a healthier alternative that regular dairy-free chocolate chips. The taste is a little bitter because there's no sugar added, however, the natural sugars from the berries balance this sweet treat out perfectly!

NOTES

  • Chocolate: This recipe requires 100% organic cacao dairy-free chocolate chips. As mentioned, they have a bitter taste because there is no sugar added but the natural sugars from the fruit make up for that. You are always welcome to substitute the chocolate chips for whatever kind you like, but because I am making changes to eat healthier, these organic chocolate chips are the better options.

BERRY CHOCOLATE SQUARES

These healthy berry chocolate squares are the perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth. What's easier and more delicious that fresh fruit and chocolate? This recipe is gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan.

 Prep Time: 10 min     Cool Time: 60 min     Total Time: 1 hour 10 min

 

INGREDIENTS

1 bag of dairy-free unsweetened chocolate chips
1 cup blueberries, washed
1 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen), washed
1/3 cup almond, chopped

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Line a square shaped pan with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Wash the berries and pat them dry to remove excess water. Once the berries are dry, pour them in into the parchment paper lined pan and spread them out. Make sure the bottom of the pan is covered almost completely.
  3. Pour the chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl and melt in the microwave for 30 seconds intervals. Keep stirring after each 30 second interval.
  4. Once the chocolate is completely melted, pour it on top of the berries and smooth it out with a soon. 
  5. Chop up some almonds and sprinkle them on the chocolate.
  6. Put the pan in the fridge and let it set and harden from an hour. Once the chocolate has hardened, remove from the pan and cut up into squares.
  7. Enjoy this bittersweet tasty treat!
